John Dramani Mahama, has blamed the Supreme Court for setting a terrible point of reference after it decided that the EC Boss would not affirm during its hearing.
The petitioner in the 2020 election dispute while addressing the media after the supreme court dismissed the case said: “Ghanaians were wanting to hear her affirm and many are as yet astounded by the refusal of Mrs. Jean Mensa to be considered answerable by affirming for this situation. Tragically, with the consistent arrangements of the Justices of the Supreme court, the crucial piece of the interaction to set up reality and hold Mrs. Mensa responsible, was obstructed on numerous occasions by a defensive cordon and firewall that I’m certain has frustrated numerous Ghanaians.
“The refusal of this Chairperson to affirm is in sharp difference to the status with which Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, at that point Chairman of the Electoral Commission, energetically affirmed in the 2013 political race appeal recorded by then-up-and-comer Nana Akufo-Addo.”
“Talking as a Ghanaian with no legitimate preparing, I accept that the refusal of the Electoral Commission Chairperson to affirm in this political decision request leaves an extremely terrible point of reference for the future.” He added.
In a consistent decision on February 11, 2021, the Supreme court said it couldn’t propel the EC Boss to mount the observer box to affirm in the political race appeal.
The court clarified that its standards didn’t enable it to arrange gatherings to call observers to show proof on the off chance that they (parties) decided not to do as such.
In spite of these clarifications by the court, Mr. Mahama oppose this idea. He trusts it is a gouge on the nation’s popular government.
