The National Democratic Congress (NDC) electrified the 2020 election with a campaign strategy dubbed The “Rescue Mission” . The party had failed to execute the agenda to make President Akuffo Addo a one term President. From Coordination of campaign activities right to crises management and being vigilant on collation activities in Collation centres to the party’s own collation hub. The NDC can’t match the NPP in all aspect. One will not be far from wrong to described President John Dramani Mahama a Wickling who has transited to being a diplomat, rather than a radical opposition leader.
A candidate who cannot get the right people do his job for him is not worthy of being a President.
The party claimed of investing GH¢1.7 Million and cannot come out with a credible collation result cannot be taken serious. How can you just go and buy 10 Nasco TV and paste them on the wall and most of your agents will be using A4 sheets and exercise books to record figures. It is annoying, how can you quickly forget the lessons of 2016? Have JM forgotten how the NPP were so organised?
The NDC team deployed in EC’s national collation center who later became erand boys of the Electoral Commissioner ‘Jean Mensah’ questions his ability to get vibrant men and women within the rank and file of the party circles to do his job.
It must also be stated that, JM despite his vast experience in politics was pressured to pick a running mate and constituted a campaign team who never wished him win.
It must be stated that, JM has not learnt the lessons of 2016 that caused his defeat then. He has failed to blend and connect with most of the caders and so they sit aloof and leave him to his own faith.
His sobar nature has become a feature of a diplomat and not an opposition leader.
The sad reality is that JM is a Wickling and power blog in NDC who will always win the party internal election with over 95% margin. The NDC must find a way to force JM out so a new leader can take the party into the 2024 election. The party must not give chances and become complicent for the second time. Undoubtedly, JM still remains popular within the NDC fraternity, because most of his appointees and cronies are dominating in the umbrella party. The party should look beyond this len’s. His leadership is not more captivating.
One surest strategy for the party is to have Presidential primaries in early 2022. The posturing of NDC in terms of responding to critical issues and alternative policies shows all is not well and for that matter a new direction is urgently needed.
The NDC must as a matter of urgency engage in reorientation or sit aloof for the NPP and the sitting government to continue to ride on them. Let me throw a word of caution to the NDC that, 2024 is not guaranteed because dynamics will not be the same.
